Abstract
Pericoronitis is a special type of acute periodontal abscess that occurs when gingival tissue that overlies a partially erupted or impacted tooth, usually a third molar or wisdom tooth, becomes inflamed. When dental referral is not readily available surgical removal of the operculum can relieve pain.
