Abstract
Thrombosis of the superficial veins can occur due to the same risk factors as deep venous thrombosis or due to varicose veins. While superficial vein thrombosis rarely embolizes, with time they may extend to the deep venous system, which carries a much higher risk of embolization. This chapter discusses diagnosis and management.
