Abstract
Toe injuries are common, and deformity, swelling, pain, and discoloration are concerning to patients, causing them to seek care. In the absence of significant deformity or concern for foreign body or open fracture, these injuries can be managed clinically without obtaining radiographs. Treatment of nondisplaced injuries is supportive with buddy taping and stiff-soled shoes. If a significant deformity is present, local or regional anesthesia should be performed, and the injury should be manipulated to achieve closed reduction. The injury can then be taped, and crutches or a splint can be provided. Appropriate follow-up with primary care, orthopedics, or podiatry should be arranged.
