Abstract
This chapter reviews temporomandibular disorder. Patients present with a variety of symptoms including poorly localized facial pain, headache, pain with movement of the mandible, clicking of the jaw or neurologic complaints. Clinical signs include tenderness of the chewing muscles, the ear canal, or the joint itself; restricted opening of the jaw or lateral deviation on opening; and a normal neurologic exam. Rule out other etiologies of pain. Treat with NSAIDS, a soft diet, application of heat or ice and follow up with a dentist.
