A, Sixteen-year-old girl underwent 4-cm closed femoral shortening. Shortly after surgery, intercalary fragment is seen around site of osteotomy, acting as bone graft. B, Osteotomy has healed 8 weeks later. At least 4 mm of distraction occurred after osteotomy. Locking of nail is recommended to preserve alignment and length, if necessary. SEE TECHNIQUE 29.43.
